Personnel: R.L. Burnside (vocals, guitar); John Neremberg (harmonica). Recorded at Microsound Studios, New York, New York in February 1988. While the late, great Mississippi bluesman R.L. Burnside is best known for his barn-burning electric work, ACOUSTIC STORIES represents another side of his musical personality. Accompanied by only a harp player and his own acoustic guitar, Burnside delivers stripped-down versions of signature songs like "Poor Black Mattie" as well as a brace of John Lee Hooker tunes and other blues classics, in a mood more than a little reminiscent of Hooker's own doomy stomp.
