Despite being frequently pigeonholed as simple 'reggae-pop', 'Man Like I' is a suprisingly eclectic debut from London's Natty. Collaborations with artists as diverse as Razorlight and Mos Def ensure that this is a varied and thought-provoking album. Although it does contain its share of summer pop, songs such as 'Revolution' and 'Say Bye Bye' give the album depth, while 'Cold Town' is a social commentary in the vein of the more traditional reggae figures.

UKよりアコースティック系ナチュラル派レゲエ・シンガー、ナッティ登場！レゲエだけでなく、ニール・ヤングからマーヴィン・ゲイまで幅広く聴いて育った彼は、卒業後からスタジオで働き始め、やがてロンドンの一流スタジオ、バタシーにあるSphereスタジオでエンジニアを務めるようになる。その傍らオープン・マイク・セッションや、自身のクラブ・イベント、Vibes and Pressure で徐々に名前を広めていく。2007年に両A面としてリリースされた、インディー・デビュー・シングル“Badmind/Camden Roリー・エヴァートン、ジャック・ジョンソンなど、“サーフ・ミュージック”好きにもおすすめ。

どことなくスティーヴン・マーリー似のロバ顔がキュートな、ノース・ロンドン出身の24歳によるデビュー・アルバム。ルックスのみならずサウンド・アプローチにもマーリー兄弟と通じるものがあり、ルーツ・ロック・レゲエに根差しながらもポップであることを意識した楽曲群は幅広いリスナーの心を射抜くはずだ。全曲アコースティック楽器で作られたメロウな本盤で、のんびりと夏の思い出に浸ってみるのはいかが?

Man Like I｜CDアルバム
デビューアルバムとは思えないクオリティーを持つ良盤。耳触りのいい楽曲が並んでいて、特に「Badman」は秀逸。リラックスを求めるには最適で一聴の価値あり。個人的には聞いた後はBob Marleyが聞きたくなります。

控えめに言ってもこれはReggaeというよりネオSoul。
冒頭の"July"や"Stoned On You"はどこかで聴いたような馴染みある楽曲。
『Jah Rastafari』などReggae用語は出てくるが、Reggaeの音使いは皆無と言って良い。
Daniel PowterよりはBlack Music寄りなので、軽く流す程度なら悪くないが、何故これがReggaeにジャンル分けされているんだろうか？
