Personnel: Phil Moore Four (vocals, guitar); Mark Paulson (vocals, violin, piano, drums); Bradley Cook (upright bass). Author: John Darnielle. The Bowerbirds are the duo of singer/guitarist Phil Moore and accordionist/drummer Beth Tacular. (Since the original self-released version of this debut album in 2007, they've added multi-instrumentalist Mark Paulson as well.) Moore and Tacular wrote the songs on this haunting, pastoral album while living in a remote cabin in a national forest, and the solitude and beauty of their surroundings come through in Moore's nature-themed metaphors and the simple acoustic beauty of the sparse arrangements. Highlights include "In Our Talons" and the epic "Olive Hearts." This 2008 reissue adds two new songs.
