Nguyen Le's guitar playing recalls John Abercrombie's more liquid moments on this 2008 release (his seventh), as he leads drummer extraordinaire Peter Erskine and bassist Michel Benita through a set of dream-like but never gauzy tracks. Le's songs are compelling and complex, as on the standout "Plan 9," which suggests the majestic wide-open frontier of space as well as the shambolic goofiness of the movie of the same name. Saxophonist Stephane Guillaume guests on a few numbers.
