バンド史上もっとも政治的なメッセージ性の強い内容となったこの10作目は、音もいつも以上にダークでアグレッシヴ。怒りと混沌を孕んで迫りくるラップやノイジーに歪んだシンセの多用も、作家のウィリアムT・ヴォルマンが暴力について著した小説をタイトルに引用した今作のテーマを裏付けている。モス・デフ&スタイルズ・Pが参加した“Rising Down”、ゴツいビートにスクラッチを挿入して荒々しいフロウを吐き散らす“Get Busy”、さらにコモンやタリブ・クウェリとの共演曲でも、いままでとは一味違うドープな空気感を打ち出している。期待のDCラッパーであるワレイを迎え、クリセット・ミッシェルの優美な歌声も揺らめく華やかなジャズ・ファンク“Rising Up”で締め括るあたりは粋な計らいだ。
