Here the Dreyfus label proudly aligns two of their greatest modern pianists. In a live 1992 recording, Michel Petrucciani (who also made some amazing albums for the Owl and Blue Note labels before switching to Dreyfus for keeps) is heard live with his father, the guitarist Tony Petrucciani, as a duo and each performing solo. This intriguing concert performance recording was posthumously released in 2002 as the album Conversation. Cut to October 2005, when pianist Jean-Michel Pilc performed live at the Iridium on Broadway in New York City with bassist Thomas Bramerie and drummer Mark Mondesir. Both pianists represent a modern creative stance based in the post-bop tradition of spontaneous expansion. Pairing their work in this package was yet another good move on the part of the folks in charge at Dreyfus. ~ arwulf arwulf
