The Emfire Collection: Mixed,Unmixed & Remixed

One of the most well-known names and faces in the trance and circles has been doing a little bit of morphing lately, turning his attention away from the progressive beats that garnered him a reputation and has been diving in to a more experimental, techy side of things. Late last year, he started a label to give him a perfect outlet for his new creations called emFire, and now, via this two-disc collection, we’re able to hear some of the finest remixes of his wildly popular tracks. Pulling out all the stops and lining up some of the biggest names in dance music right now, Sasha shot for the moon on this collection of remixes. Whether it be Radio Slave remixing one of the newer releases, “Who Killed Sparky?” in two completely different styles (one dubstep, one classic Radio Slave minimal), Soma Quality Recordings’ Slam giving us a completely different take on the brooding “Coma,” or techno wonder-child Audion delivering a hypnotically droning remix of “Park it in the Shade,” there’s really no stopping this entire collective of tracks. But where the compilation really shines is its second disc, most notably a forty-minute long epic film score created entirely by Sasha himself for the groundbreaking surf movie “New Emissions of Light & Sound.” Its quite obvious as to why this won an award for Best Original Film Score – darkly sparse and peppered with off-time beats and brooding pads bring visions of slow moving breakers and towering waves instantly to mind.
