Personnel: Bill Watrous (trombone); Joe Romano (tenor saxophone); Danny Stiles (trumpet); Ross Tompkins (piano); John Heard (bass instrument, bass guitar); Frank Capp (drums). The brilliant trombonist Bill Watrous led a string of excellent small group dates for the now-defunct Famous Door label during the late 1970's/early 80's. This set teams him with pianist Jim Cox, bassist Tom Childs, drummer Chad Wackerman and percussionist Dave Levine but the emphasis is on the leader. Watrous performs four standards (most memorable are a rapid "Falling In Love With Love" and "Body & Soul") and two more recent tunes. A fine if obscure effort by an underrated trombonist. ~ Scott Yanow
