With a name like Dark Fortress, it should come as no surprise that the band's specialty is epic black metal. Their first effort with new vocalist Morean is a meditation on the idea of traveling to other dimensions through astral projection and mirrors (seriously). While it sounds kind of new-agey, the music that tells the story is anything but. Caustic guitars open ragged wounds while vocals gurgle up from black pits on songs such as "Baphomet" and "No Longer Human," an atmospheric ode to shedding one's humanity en route to traveling into other realms. EIDOLON is as heavy spiritually as it is sonically.
