Band of the Royal Irish Regiment: Colour Sergeant R. C. Green (pipe); Lieutenant Colonel A.M. Hart (pipes, bugle, drums); Colour Seargeant C. Betts (bugle); Captain P. W. Norley, Colonel W. M. Campbell, Warrant Officer Class One I. M. Collin.
In the four-volume Royal Irish Series of recordings by the Band of the Royal Irish Regiment (or "The Band, Bugles, Pipes and Drums of the Royal Irish Regiment," as it's billed here), the first and third volumes (Faugh-A-Ballagh and Oft in the Stilly Night) contain more traditional music for an Irish marching band dominated by bagpipes, while the second and fourth volumes (Cry of the Celts and Killaloe) are more eclectic collections. In particular, Killaloe finds the band frequently making like a brass-filled studio soundtrack orchestra, with such selections as "Out of Africa" and "Music from 'Braveheart'" being actual arrangements of film score themes. To be sure, the martial drums and bagpipes are heard frequently and, as on the previous volumes, there are plenty of familiar Irish tunes (specifically in the "Six Counties Medley"), some of which have been heard before in the series. But more often the band here sounds like it's playing background music for an Irish-themed movie that hasn't been made yet. ~ William Ruhlmann
