3rdソロ・アルバム『Se Dice Bisonte, No Bufalo』から約半年ほどで4作目『Calibration』のリリースと、怒涛の快進撃を続けるオマー・ロドリゲス。そして今度はThe Mars Voltaとしての4thフル・アルバムが登場！今作は、ウワサによると前作『Amputechture』の発売時には既に完成されていたとのこと。ありとあらゆる音楽要素を貪欲に吸収し、圧倒的なカオスへと築き上げ、すでに常人の理解を超えた存在へと到達しつつある彼ら。怒涛のリリースを続けるオマーの制作意欲には本当に驚かされます。もはや“理解”とかのレベルではない、ただただ彼らのカオスに身を預け、思いのままに溺れてしまおうじゃないか!!

オマー・ロドリゲス・ロペスによるソロ作の連続リリースを経て、マーズ・ヴォルタ本隊が完成させた待望のニュー・アルバム。前作同様にジェフ・ジョーダンがアートワークを手掛け、タイトルには旧約聖書に登場する巨人兵士の名を掲げるなど、楽曲のみならず作品全体で独自の世界観を構築しているが、本作を聴いてまず真っ先に圧倒されたのが異常なほどテンションの高いサウンドだった。また、これまでと比べて曲の尺が短くなったこともあり、セドリック・ビクスラー・サヴァラのハイトーン・ヴォーカルが炸裂する冒頭の“Abernikula”からラストの“Conjugal Burns”までを一気に聴かせてしまうあたりもポイントだろう。すべての楽曲が怒涛の如き音の奔流となって、脳と身体と神経を強烈に刺激するぞ!
