Otherwise known as Peter Bramall, Bram Tchaikovsky graduated from pub-rockers/power-poppers the Motors to form an eponymous band in the late 1970s. Their first album, 1979's STRANGE MAN CHANGED MAN, is a power pop gem, containing at least one bona fide classic, "Girl of My Dreams," which even made it into the U.S. Top 40. With a combination of New Wave energy, Byrdsy jangle and harmonies, and the occasional touch of heaviness in the guitar attack, Bram T.'s debut was full of breathless energy, coaxed to life by producer Nick Garvey, another ex-Motor. Its brash, infectious (and unerringly melodious) abandon should appeal to anyone enamored of early Nick Lowe, the Jam, et al.
