Recording information: 2002-2004. The vintage synthesizer sounds of Black Moth Super Rainbow's 2004 release sometimes sound like a bargain-basement Kraftwerk, especially when electronic vocals intone robotic mantras on tracks such as "I Am the Alphabet" and "I Think It Is Beautiful That You Are 256 Colors Too" over swirling, hypnotic keyboard figures. Pretty, warped-sounding instrumentals like "Seeds" and the warped-sounding "Early '70s Gymnastics" gradually collapse beneath the weight of their own artfully arranged faulty technology, but the placidly beautiful "123 of Me" and "Hazy Field People" prove that the band really needs no such gimmicks to hold its listeners' attention.
