LIVE AT THE BBC contains 28 tracks spread over two discs that rounds up an embarrassment of riches from one of the better-built, but less remembered flowers of the Britpop scene, Shed Seven. While there is little in the band's arsenal that can easily be aligned with what Britpop means to most people today, at their best, Shed Seven could have given any of their better-feted peers a run for their money. Disc one, concentrating on the group's studio sessions, is just shy of revelatory. Recorded principally for various appearances on Mark Radcliffe's show, it finds the band running through all their best known numbers, sometimes adhering to the recorded script, other times spreading out to prove there was a lot more going on in their heads than another punchy, tight hit. Flip to disc two, however, and the band explode all preconceptions, as this batch of live recordings from various gigs during 1996-1997 prove where Shed Seven were truly at their best.|
