British one-man-band Songs of the Green Pheasant (also known as Duncan Sumpner) specializes in hazy shades of neo-psychedelia more in keeping with the vintage likes of Donovan or newcomers to the style such as Devendra Banhart than with the more aggressive electric set. GYLLYING STREET, the third Songs of Green Pheasant album, has the watery, abstract vibe of Robert Wyatt's solo material, and Sumpner's first-time inclusion of guest musicians helps make it Songs of Green Pheasant's most varied and musically accomplished release yet. Highlights include the ghostly "The Ballad of Century Paul."
