The title, a reference to the bubbly ye-ye style of music popular in France during the 1960s, is not to be taken literally. The album was recorded over the course of two years, partly in the United States. The end result of those two years were 57 tracks, eventually narrowed down to the 12 found on Trash Yeye. フランス音楽界がゲンズブールの再現とその才能を認める、ソングライター/プロデューサーのバンジャマン・ビオレー。前作「A L'ORIGINE」に続く４作目「TRASH YEYE」は、純粋さと動物的本能とういう矛盾する要素が交錯する、憎らしいほどに美しくおしゃれで芸術性に満ち溢れた作品。アルバムタイトルにある『YEYE』とは、１９６０年代フランスで流行したロック調の音楽やディスコ風のスタイル。パリのみならずアメリカ、ウッドストックでもレコーディングを行い、この２年間で今作のためにベネディクト・シュミットと共にレコーディングおよびプロデュースした楽曲は57曲！その中から厳選収録した濃厚な1枚。

〈現代のゲンスブール〉による2年ぶりの新作はウッドストック録音も含み、いままでのフレンチらしい芳醇な香りに加えて、アメリカの荒廃した雰囲気も漂わせる仕上がりに。フォーク&ロック調のアコースティックな曲から、彼らしい繊細な打ち込みによるアレンジの曲などが並ぶが、どの曲でも埃っぽさの染み付き具合が特徴。オシャレ音楽だと思って聴くとダーティーな男臭さに良い意味で裏切られてしまうだろう粋な作品だ。
