In 1966, after years of knocking around the edges of the Hollywood music scene, Lee Hazlewood broke through thanks to Nancy Sinatra's hit version of his song "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'". With this newfound success, the songwriter and producer signed to MGM Records and released his fourth solo album, THE VERY SPECIAL WORLD OF LEE HAZLEWOOD. Buttressed by his own snarling version of "Boots" and other songs recorded by Nancy Sinatra ("Sand", "So Long Babe", and "Summer Wine", here a duet with the excellently named Jane Hokum), this is Lee Hazlewood at his most commercial. However, the combination of Billy Strange's over-the-top orchestrations and Hazlewood's own deep, gravelly voice makes for a unique, occasionally challenging sound that underscores his adoption by a later generation of the music cognoscente. This reissue includes no bonus tracks, but features excellent remastered sound and expansive liner notes.|
