The cultural dialogue between Scandinavia and America continues, courtesy of Swedish metalcore traditionalists Sonic Syndicate. ONLY INHUMAN is a decidedly American-sounding foray into metalcore dynamism, with hints of space-aged pop peeking through the oppressive heaviness here and there. While songs like "Psychic Suicide" and "Double Agent 616" will never be mistaken for Max Martin hits, the subtle use of multi-tracked vocals and electronic effects and textures that spice up the production keep Sonic Syndicate from being cookie-cutter thrashers. There's even a power ballad, "Enclave", that's begging for airplay. Tough but tender, ONLY INHUMAN isn't afraid to be vulnerable.|
