Like fellow Dublin four-piece Director, Delorentos' razor-tight, radio-friendly indie rock is heavily informed by the guitar-centric post-punk revival sound promulgated by the Strokes and Interpol. However, Delorentos' music bears just as significant an influence in the form of the Smiths and the Cure. Frontman Kieran McGuinness is well-versed in the cadences of Mssrs Smith and Morrissey, while co-guitarist Ro Yourell's jangly guitar lines do much to infuse tracks like "Eustace Street" and "Stop" with a playful, gothic melancholy. However, In Love with Detail's strongest tracks are its dancey numbers. Opener "Any Other Way" and "Until the Next Time" recall the stop-start party punk of Franz Ferdinand, while highlight "Hands Off the Boy" bears a pleasing resemblance to Geordie rockers Maximo Park. Delorentos may not be the most original of bands, even within the now two-decade old art rock scene, but in terms of pop smarts and communicability, Delorentos rival the best of the post-punk revival has to offer. ~ Dave Donnelly|
