Representing Seattle, the duo known as Blue Scholars (made up of DJ/Producer Sabzi and MC Geologic) combines conscious lyricism with true school underground production on their second full-length release, BAYANI. In many ways, Blue Scholars fit in nicely with much of Rawkus's second wave line-up: anti-commercial in spirit, with a sound evocative of the underground's glory days. Lyrically, Geologic offers pointed political protest on the antiwar track "Back Home" and on the ode to free assembly, "50K Deep."
