Rooted in the blues sound, the classic recordings on the Hammond B-3 organ of the '50s, '60s and '70s provided a jagged, funky edge for electrified jazz music. Though the sound had pretty much died out by the late '70s, the '80s and '90s brought a resurgence in popularity, with new recordings by John Patton, as well as new bands like Medeski Martin and Wood picking up the baton.
