This excellent double-disc set represents previously unreleased recordings made by soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy and trombonist Roswell Rudd between 1999 and 2002. Lacy and Rudd mine an adventurous post-bop tradition that verges freely into avant territory without ever devolving into sheer skronk. In fact, the level of harmonic and rhythmic invention on this set, and its surprising accessibility, will appeal to jazz fans of many stripes. Also included here are demos Lacy and Rudd cut in the early '60s for their SCHOOL DAYS album, a bonus treat that rivals the quality and invention of the duo's later sessions.
