Functional but ordinary neo-traditionalist country with occasional nods towards rock (the stadium-ready, riff-heavy "Trouble Maker," for example), the debut album by singer Trent Bourgeois is adequate good ol' boy material in the Toby Keith style. Trent Bourgeois is a pretty good but unfortunately anonymous singer, with a twang that doesn't sound like an affectation; however, his one writing credit, the mawkish ballad "Rodeo Star," is filled with awkward, clunky lines that don't scan and are near impossible to sing properly. That one misstep aside, Bourgeois tends to have a better handle on ballads than on the up-tempo material: he delivers the unabashedly manipulative tearjerkers "Duct Taped Bible" and "Man of the Family" with an old-fashioned restraint reminiscent of old-school gentlemen of the Porter Wagoner tradition. But way too much of Easy Street is devoted to standard issue 2-steps like "Beer Bottle Brown" and "All Night Long," which make Trent Bourgeois sound too much like just any other Nashville pretty boy. ~ Stewart Mason
