Decades before the psych-folk Christianity of the Sounds Familyre bands, Silmaril were spinning their weird webs in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This self-pressed 1973 album, reissued by Locust Music in 2007, is rife with stunning bits of acoustic psychedelia reminiscent of Syd Barrett's solo work, but with a spiritual bent that makes it all the more mysterious. "Vespers," a lovely, Elizabethan-sounding ballad, demonstrates the band's delicate but off-the-wall sensibilities.
