Crowbar is no stranger to the revolving door syndrome; over the years, the long-running New Orleans alternative metal/sludge outfit has experienced one lineup change after another. But despite that revolving door status, Crowbar has had a way of bouncing back and offering fans solid albums and solid concerts -- and that has a lot to do with the very focused leadership of singer/guitarist Kirk Windstein, who knows how to make Crowbar sound like Crowbar regardless of who is on bass or drums at the moment. Windstein certainly sounds focused on this live DVD, which is mainly devoted to Crowbar's appearance at the With Full Force Festival in Germany in 2005; his angry, tormented, bellowing lead vocals are as authoritative as ever on searing performances of "All I Had I Gave," "Burn Your World" and other sludgy material that serious Crowbar devotees will recognize. Unfortunately, Live: With Full Force jumps back and forth between the performances in Germany and an interview with the band; Candlelight is obviously going for a VH1-style "rockumentary" format, but it would have been much better to confine the live performances to one part of the DVD and the interview footage to a different part. Nonetheless, the interview is enjoyably interesting; Windstein discusses everything from his taste in music (he's a big Sade fan and makes it clear that he doesn't spend all his time listening to metal) to Crowbar's influence on Killswitch Engage and other bands. Live: With Full Force is not among Crowbar's essential releases, but it has a lot going for it and -- despite its imperfections -- will definitely be of interest to the Louisianan's' die-hard followers. ~ Alex Henderson
