This intriguing but not totally successful set features singer Iqua Colson, Adegoke Steve Colson on tenor and piano, Wallace LaRoy McMillan on various reeds, bassist Reggie Willis, and percussionist Dushun Mosley on five originals by the Colsons. An avant-garde set, the music is at its best when it features the saxophone solos of Colson and McMillan, but Iqua Colson's voice gets a little hard to take in spots. The lyrics are a bit trivial and the interpretations tend to be strident and pushy, making this effort less significant (and less listenable) than it should have been. ~ Scott Yanow
