Or, more impolitely, "cool as f*ck," a popular Inspiral Carpets T-shirt slogan of the time, this EP, assembled for American benefit more than anything else, stitches together a slew of early tracks from the time before the band signed to Mute. As derivative but energetic garage rock with Clint Boon's organ as the lead more than anything else, the cuts here are a bit of a mix but still have their points. Opener "Joe" is one of the band's best early numbers, with a great sing-/shout-along chorus and some fine work by Boon on the instrumental breaks, while "Plane Crash" makes for a groovy enough 16-minute jam for those so inclined to such psych trips. "Find Out Why" is a fun bit of freakbeat fuzziness -- if nothing else, one can't say the band lacked for energy, and everybody sounded appropriately amped-up here -- while "So Far" and "Out of Time" do the same thing without much variation. ~ Ned Raggett

Uncut - 4 stars out of 5 - "...This best, rare and promos extravaganza is a fine tribute to the Madchester scene's most consistent singles band..."
