Several albums of the late '70s and early '80s can be pinpointed as the beginning of the whole goth rock movement -- Bauhaus' In the Flat Field, Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures, and such early releases by Siouxsie and the Banshees as 1979's Join Hands. The band's second album overall shows Siouxsie leading her band through eight moody yet melodic tracks that most goth vampires of the era could really sink their teeth into. The short opener, "Poppy Day," sets the tone and feel for the rest of the album splendidly, as proven by the next three standout tracks in a row -- "Regal Zone," "Placebo Effect," and "Icon." By refining and focusing the original direction they explored on their debut album (1978's The Scream), Siouxsie and the Banshees delivered with Join Hands. ~ Rovi Staff
