This collection certainly doesn't assemble the best of classic reggae, and it really isn't much of a party explosion, either, but is rather a sequence of relatively smooth and bland lovers rock with hardly an edge to be seen. Oh, it's pleasant enough, and tracks like Dennis Brown's "Weeping and Moaning" (easily the best cut here) are memorable, if not essential. Delroy Wilson's reggae restructuring of Captain & Tennille's "Do That to Me One More Time" and Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" are worth hearing, if only to realize how definitive the original versions actually are. The only real party track here, Dave & Ansel Collins' "Double Barrel" is unfortunately a remake and not the original single. ~ Steve Leggett
