This double-CD best-of features the great folk music proselytizer and working class organizer Pete Seeger performing solo, with the folk group the Weavers, and with the legendary post-war group the Almanac Singers, on a variety of original and traditional folk and union material. Songs include Seeger's own composition, the classic "If I Had a Hammer," the Weavers' heavily orchestrated version of the African song "Wimoweh," and the Almanac Singers' heartfelt rallying cry, "Union Maid." The set provides a fascinating snapshot of the 20th century post-war American folk and political scenes, as well as a depiction of the musical commercialization of the originally radically left-wing Weavers.
