Recorded originally in 1972, DRUM DANCE TO THE MOTHERLAND showcases the left-leaning aesthetic of avant jazz vibraphonist Khan Jamal. At once fractured, fluid, and expressionistic, with a strong tribal element (thanks in large part to the African-style drumming), the transcendent intentions of Jamal's musical universe are clear, a feeling reinforced by song titles like "Cosmic Echoes" and "Inner Peace." The lengthy, abstract, fusion-oriented jams should appeal to fans of BITCHES BREW and other avant jazz outings of the era.
