Jamaican singer and songwriter Eric Donaldson has been poorly served in the CD era, although his most famous song, the effortlessly simple and infectious "Cherry Oh Baby," has been anthologized and versioned repeatedly. Donaldson has more to offer than just that one tune, however, and while this collection has some fine tracks, including the lovely and sublime "Got to Get You Off My Mind" and a surprisingly limber cover of the Tokens' "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," it curiously doesn't include the title track, "Cherry Oh Baby," although "What a Festival" is voiced over the "Cherry" backing track. ~ Steve Leggett|
