The story of GG Allin involves extreme punk rock, violent confrontations, an uncompromising attitude, arrests, and an inevitably grisly demise. Allin may have won few friends in the music industry, but that wasn't really the point; A ferocious presence onstage, Allin performed with no limits whatsoever. Shows often ended in a bloody mess after numerous conflicts between band and audience, taking the notion of a punk rock show into new and dangerous territories. In 1991 he was released from jail after a 19 month stretch inside, and immediately took to the road. Backed by his band, The Murder Junkies, GG is captured here on three dates from the tour, in San Diego, Chicago, and Atlanta.

If you don't already agree that G.G. Allin was the most dangerous (and vile) performer in all of rock history, then his Raw Brutal Rough & Bloody: Best of 1991 Live DVD will surely finally convince you. As its title states, the 100-minute DVD focuses solely on 1991-era performances, just as G.G. had returned to the stage after a long sabbatical (brought on by a prison sentence). Comprised of three different shows (San Diego, Chicago, and Atlanta -- each roughly a month apart), the shows prove that G.G. only grew more fierce during his prison stay, as he constantly gets into it with the audience, and 'assaults' them with punches and certain bodily fluids (the gutsy portion of the crowd responds often by throwing beer bottles and chairs, while most simply flee the scene). Supporting G.G. during this trio of shows is his last-ever backing band, the Murder Junkies, comprised of G.G.'s brother, Merle, on bass, Dino Sex on drums, and on the first two shows, Chicken John (who will be infamous to fans for blasting G.G. in the documentary, Hated), before Bill Weber takes over. All of G.G.'s standards are included here, including "Bite It You Scum," "Die When You Die," and "I Wanna F*ck Myself," in all their Raw Brutal Rough & Bloody glory. While G.G. shocks and rocks throughout, perhaps the most surprising portion of the whole DVD is a bonus interview with G.G. and Merle's mother (turns out she's -- extremely sweet and even-tempered!). While the Hated documentary will always remain the best G.G. DVD, Raw Brutal Rough & Bloody: Best of 1991 Live will probably go down as the best concert G.G. DVD. ~ Greg Prato
