Mario Vasquez is best known for his appearance on the fourth season of AMERICAN IDOL, and his self-titled debut comes across with all the confidence he displayed for his appreciative television audience. With his sweet voice and street-wise good looks, Vasquez does seem to have the makings of a star, and the 14 tracks of his first effort, which alternate between Latin pop and smooth R&B with a sharp commercial instinct, uphold that suspicion. Along with other graduates of the American Idol competition, it will remain to be seen whether Vasquez can parlay his momentum into a sustained career, but this sexy, assured first album points him in the right direction.
