The New York avant-jazz ensemble Sex Mob had been performing its hybrid of jazz and whatever other influences struck its fancy for almost a decade when it recorded this Grammy-nominated collection of jazz, exotica, and hip-hop in 2006. Inspired by the sound effects-laden work of the eccentric 1950s composer Martin Denny, SEXOTICA blends lush, kitsch textures with grainy remix effects on a set of surprisingly accessible compositions, including the dance instrumental "Pygmy Suite" and the soul-jazz of "Luvin' Blume."
