One of the more club-oriented acts involved in the late-1980s/early-'90s industrial scene, Nitzer Ebb specialized in a highly percussive, synthesizer-based sound. Fronted by the ever-agitated shouter Douglas McCarthy, the British band crafted tracks perfect for venting aggression on the dance floor, as exemplified by early singles such as the pummeling "Isn't It Funny How Your Body Works" and the fearsome "Murderous." Although the group's later recordings occasionally veered toward a slightly poppier aesthetic (see the disarmingly catchy "Fun to Be Had"), the band came to rest on a brooding, alt-rock approach (the urgent "I Give to You" and the lumbering "Godhead") before dissolving in the late '90s. This 2006 compilation features all of the aforementioned songs, and also includes a bonus disc of remixes (most notably William Orbit's top-notch reworkings of "Captivate" and "Backlash"), making BODY OF WORK 1984-1997 an essential release for both curious Nitzer neophytes and longtime Ebbheads.
