This concert represents an opening and closing of doors: the first and only time that the soprano saxophonist Steve Lacy and the percussionist Patrick Heward had performed together since meeting in Paris nearly 30 years earlier was also one of Lacy's last performances before his death from cancer a year later. Throughout the piece, Lacy's confident, exploratory lines are punctuated but never overwhelmed by Heward's subtle percussion. Poignantly, the improvisation (which not only highlights the rapport between the two old friends but also makes one wish that this wasn't the only time they had met), is brought to a close by Lacy's musical tribute to his former drummer, the eponymous Oliver Johnson.
録音 : ステレオ (Live)
