Praxis--the avant-prog groove-metal project formed by bassist Bill Laswell--returns after a seven-year absence with ZURICH, a live concert recording from 2005. Augmented by such musicians as drummer Brian "Brain" Mantia (Primus), guitarist Buckethead (briefly of Guns 'n' Roses), and DJ Mix Master Mike, the set finds the group riding in a musical armored car amidst street-level turntablist warfare, volleying back with blasts of hyperspeed tempo and time changes and metallic shred. Laswell's dominant fretless bass rumble anchors these tracks over a variety of styles--all schizoid, all the time.
