The 14 cuts that make up Flipped Out on Love contain Stanley Turrentines Flipped Out album, recorded for Los Angeles label Canyon Records between his CTI and Fantasy periods with producer Monk Higgins, Wilton Felder, Freddy Robinson (yep, the Stax session man), and Paul Humphrey. This is nonessential Turrentine, but it is some sweet soul-jazz with the man playing the hits of the day with verve and some real fire. The remainder of the disc is filled out with singer Gloria Lynnes 45s for the Canyon label. And while the pairing may seem odd, it works better than one might suspect. ~ Thom Jurek
