Evidently it's not enough for Hefty label owner John Hughes III to unleash a two-disc set of collaborations, reinterpretations, and assorted new tracks (History Is Bunk) as a celebration of his label's tenth anniversary. He also decided to throw together another two-disc set featuring the best of the label's output over the past decade. Contributions from Hughes himself under his own name as well as under his Slicker guise lead the charge, while solid contributions from Telefon Tel Aviv, Savath + Savalas, and jazz legend Phil Ranelin are not too far behind. The second disc is a mix set woven together by Savath + Savalas/Prefuse 73 figurehead Scott Herren. While erratic at some points, Hefty 10 Digest brilliantly maps out where the label has been and -- more importantly -- in what direction it's heading. ~ Rob Theakston
