An awkward pairing, lining up the last of the Edgar Broughton Band's "classic" albums, 1975's Bandages, with a live show presumably cut some time during the 1990s, and surely not intended, originally, for anything but the fan club. The sound quality is rough to say the least and, while the performances tend to be strong enough to bear repeat listenings, it's unlikely to make anybody's Top 10. (The absence of many of the band's established live favorites is a disadvantage, too).Bandages, on the other hand, is a joy from start to finish, even if -- somewhat contrarily -- it does present the band at their smoothest, drawing more comparisons with Steely Dan than you would ever have dreamed possible. ~ Dave Thompson|
