Far more popular in the U.K. than in his native South Africa or the U.S., Danny Williams was an accomplished ballad singer whose career is given a strong overview in the form of this disc, originally released in 1997 and then reissued in 2006. The compilation sticks to his early-'60s material and features many of his U.K. hits, including a version of "Moon River" that Nat King Cole viewed as unsurpassable. (Cole turned down an opportunity to record the song for that reason.) "White on White," his only charting single in the U.S. -- which, ironically failed to chart in the U.K. -- is also included here. ~ Andy Kellman|
