Long Islanders John Hampson and Brian Desveaux took their guitars, voices and desire to hone strong material, and holed themselves up in Hampson's apartment. They came out of their creative hibernation with a mission, and built the band Nine Days around it.
On their debut THE MADDING CROWD (whose title is inspired by writer Thomas Hardy), Nine Days present a collection of honest, well thought out, tightly produced songs that agreeably recall modern rockers Third Eye Blind and Matchbox Twenty. "Bob Dylan" is a modern day tribute, opening with a thin drum loop and a play on "Subterranean Homesick Blues," while "257 Weeks" brings to mind '80s popsters Squeeze. "Bitter" tenderly faces regret with a Beatles-type production, while "Back to Me" features rhythmic mandolin and shared lead vocals by John and Brian. "Revolve" dances through a progression of poetic metaphors, and the dynamic "Wanna Be" is as close to a Bryan Adams styled love ballad as any modern rock band would wish to get.
