Years after the dissolution of the Welsh cult band Young Marble Giants, vocalist Alison Statton began collaborating with her multi-instrumentalist friend Spike Williams, first in the group Weekend and then on their own, eventually leading to the WEEKEND IN WALES EP and TIDAL BLUES, issued in 1993 and '94, respectively. This excellent disc compiles the two releases, revealing a warm, folk-influenced sound (see the lilting "Take Heart") that stands in stark contrast to the Giants' often cold, minimalist aesthetic.
