The common thread is Cher herself, and she has the vocal presence to pull it off. She acts as a storyteller, weaving together a collection of narrative, R&B-ish songs. Although she has left behind the hard pop-metal sound of her past, Cher remains as emotional as ever. But she now sounds softer and sweeter.
