FALL IN A HOLE is a dynamite live set from one of the most important and restlessly prolific bands in underground music. Recorded in 1982 in New Zealand, the set captures the Fall in one of its best incarnations, and the ferocious sonic barrage the band unleashes is truly something to behold. As usual, lead singer Mark E. Smith's literate, associative lyrics and disaffected, deadpan delivery are front and center, but this is a genuine band effort, with the musicians slinging thunderous rhythms, jagged, see-saw guitars, and avant-punk sound paintings on classics like "The Man Whose Head Expanded" and "Prole Art Threat." This is classic Fall, and is a great introduction for those intrigued by the formative years of the group's landmark vitriolic style. Included are two discs that feature an entire show, encores, and bonus tracks.
