Although 2005's Familia is the first album that Chile native Pier Paolo Bucci has issued under his real name, techno fans may be familiar with his previous work, under the aliases of U Cover, Mambotur, and Monne Automne (the latter a collaboration with producer Luciano). Recorded in both Berlin and Paris, Familia sounds custom-made for the Ibiza set -- electronic dance that is largely instrumental, with vocal cameos by Armelle Pioline (on "L'Nuit" and "Tita") and Macha (on "Hay Consuelo"). In fact, longtime admirers will detect that Bucci laid down the sonic groundwork for Familia with two prior EPs, Cinetico Andino and Advance Romance. Bucci opted to sequence his fifth release overall as one continuous listen, as the songs blend seamlessly into one another. As a result, individual standouts are quite hard to pick, but as one single "piece," Familia works quite well -- guaranteed to transform your living room into an electro dancefloor. The press releases says that the album features "the perfect balance of headphone sensibility and dancefloor abandon," and they may have hit the nail right on the head. Additionally, you have to love the fact that Bucci did the album cover artwork of Familia all by himself. ~ Greg Prato
