This contemporary collection of instrumental jazz funk from a quartet heavily featuring the unmistakable classic sound of the Hammond organ strongly recalls the mid-1990s acid jazz craze. Keyboard wizard Bradford Hoopes steers clear of porn soundtrack retreads and Booker T knockoffs for a set of early-70s funk-influenced improvisation. The label, Hammondbeat, somewhat eccentrically deals only in bands featuring the eponymous instrument; the feel is retro, the performances youthfully energetic.
