The thing that keeps Take a Walk from being as solid as the later Human Race album is that Andreas Bolz's usual cold and clinical brand of electro-techno is too often interrupted by garish vocal samples. They're only common on first listen but grow tiresome on returning (except for "The Ultimate," which is annoying right out of the box). Take a Walk pumps harder and faster than the usual electro, with squelchy melodies shooting out of the robotic base. "Wersitime" is Bolz's great nod to Kraftwerk, the titled track is infectious, and "Cosmetics" is a hectic highlight. Sounds like a great album, but Bolz got much better and this isn't the place to start. Electro addicts going backward through his discography might be disappointed he wasn't always so tasteful. ~ David Jeffries
