Contemporary gospel star Andrae Crouch is widely acclaimed as a singer, composer, instrumentalist, and bandleader. Unlike a lot of CCM artists, Crouch's music has a strong tie to traditional gospel: he employs full choirs on his albums, and his compositions often swell to the divine heights of a tent revival. At the same time, Crouch's songs are strong in pop sensibility. MIGHTY WIND, Crouch's 2006 release, plants memorable melodies over the light yet solid grooves that one might hear on soft rock radio. But there is nothing soft about the gospel spirit here, thanks in part to Crouch's powerful choir and his own impassioned vocals. Naturally, the themes of MIGHTY WIND revolve around Christian praise and worship, resulting in another inspirational and beautifully produced album from Crouch.
